Who is Urology suitable for?

Erectile Dysfunction (ED)

You’ve probably asked yourself two critical questions: “Is ED permanent?” and “Can this problem be fixed?”

The good news is in most cases, no it’s not permanent and yes it can be fixed!

The first — and biggest — hurdle to correcting your ED is having the courage to talk about it. The sooner you seek medical guidance, the sooner you can start treatment to get back to a more fulfilling sex life.

If you’ve been struggling with ED recently, or for some time now, book an initial ED consultation and take the first step to rediscovering a healthy sex life.

What is Erectile Dysfunction?

Erectile dysfunction refers to difficulty achieving and maintaining an erection sufficient for penetration. The condition prevents a man from having sex or finishing sex.

Experiencing occasional difficulties with erections is not usually a cause for concern. However, if erectile dysfunction persists over time, it can lead to stress, anxiety, strained relationships, and diminished self-confidence. This condition used to be called impotence.

While many men may feel embarrassed and hesitant to seek medical help and advice, it’s important to recognise its prevalence. Our clinicians prioritise discretion, empathy and understanding in addressing such concerns.

Studies show that ED is more common that people realise; indicating that over half of men aged 40 to 70 encounter some level of ED.

Having the confidence to book an ED consultation marks the first step towards a healthier and more fulfilling sex life.

Focused shockwave therapy for ED

Erectile Dysfunction (ED) can be a sensitive and embarrassing topic to talk about, and a lot of men suffer in silence, but there is really no need for it to be so. ED is much more common than most people think: over 50% of men aged 40 to 70 are likely to encounter some level of ED, persistent or transient. However, it often responds well to treatment.

Regener8 Healthcare provides focused shockwave therapy for ED which can treat the root cause of erectile dysfunction quickly, discreetly, and without medication.

We treat men of all ages at our Barnt Green well-supported medical environment.

You are not alone – 58% of men in the UK have experienced erectile dysfunction *

What could have caused my ED?

There are many factors that can affect the blood flow and the quality of the blood vessels in the penis. ED can result from medical problems, medication, emotional factors, or a combination of these.

Some known causes and risk factors or ED are:

  • Being over a certain age (although it can happen at any age)
  • Being overweight – Obesity is a common factor related to ED.
  • Having high blood pressure, cardiovascular disease or high cholesterol
  • Depression, fatigue, and sleeping disorders
  • High stress levels
  • Relationship problems – Arguments and bad communication can make the bedroom an uncomfortable place.
  • Low testosterone
  • Tobacco use, heavy alcohol consumption, and other substance abuse all tend to constrict blood vessels, which can lead to or worsen ED.

Occasionally, a patient may have a combination of factors contributing to erectile dysfunction. Finding and treating the reason for ED is vital.

Chronic Prostatitis

Prostatitis can be a debilitating condition affecting men. It can have bacterial and non-bacterial causes, it can be acute or cause chronic pain. Mr Zakikhani offers a range of treatments to help improve the quality of life for men affected.

PSA Blood Monitoring

The prostate is a small, walnut-size gland under the bladder and behind the penis. It produces a thick fluid that mixes with sperm to make semen.

A PSA test checks the level of prostate specific antigen (PSA) in your blood. High levels may be a sign of a prostate condition.

Testing may be recommended if you have symptoms that could indicate prostate cancer, such as:

  • peeing more than usual, having a sudden urge to pee or getting up often in the night to pee
  • blood in your pee
  • problems getting or keeping an erection

If your symptoms are caused by cancer, finding it early may mean it’s easier to treat.

Routine PSA testing is not offered on the NHS.  We offer PSA testing with results back in 24-48hrs.

Peyronie’s Disease

Peyronie’s disease is a condition that causes your penis to curve when it’s erect. It can be painful but there are treatments to ease the symptoms and stop it getting worse.

Peyronie’s disease mainly affects men over 40, but younger men can also get it. It can affect any adult with a penis.

Diagram of a penis with labels showing the tube that pee passes through (urethra) and a hardened area (scar) on the top side of the erectile tissue, which makes the penis curve upwards.

Symptoms of Peyronie’s disease include:

  • swelling that later causes a hard lump to develop on the shaft of your penis and stops it stretching during erections
  • a curve in your penis when it’s erect (if the hard area is on the top of your penis it will curve upwards, if it’s on the bottom it will curve downwards)
  • painful erections that can make having sex difficult
  • problems getting or keeping an erection
  • other changes to your penis – for example, you may have a hard area on the top, bottom and side of your penis, shortening it and making it narrower in the middle

If you have Peyronie’s disease, your skin may also be thicker and less flexible in other parts of your body, such as in your hands and feet.

Penises vary a lot in size and shape. There may naturally be a slight curve in your penis when it’s erect. But get medical help if your penis curves a lot or erections are painful.

P Shot

The P-Shot, also known as the Priapus shot. It involves injecting your bodies own blood plasma  into the male organ. Blood plasma is rich in growth factors, its injected to stimulate the regeneration of new blood vessels and healthier tissues in the male organ. The goal is to replace damaged tissues with new, healthier ones, enhancing firmer erections, improved sensation, and confident sexual performance.

The P Shot, or Priapus Shot, stands out as one of the leading solutions for erectile dysfunction for patients in the West Midlands and Worcestershire. This innovative treatment, is designed to rejuvenate and enhance male sexual performance. Unlike conventional treatments, the P Shot offers a natural, minimally invasive approach, harnessing the body’s healing capabilities to improve erectile function and overall sexual health. Opting for the P Shot means choosing a path towards renewed confidence and vitality in your intimate life.

The P-Shot works by taking a blood sample from the arm, spinning it in a centrifuge to extract your blood serum, and then injecting this into the male organ. This process stimulates the regeneration of new tissues and the formation of new blood sinuses, known as neovascularisation, through the attraction and multiplication of stem cells and fibroblasts. The result is a stronger erection, size enhancement, and increased sensation.

Low Testosterone and Testosterone Replacement Therapy (TRT)

Men with low testosterone often report low mood, irritability, fatigue, anxiety, reduced libido or difficulty achieving an erection. Other common symptoms include brain fog, lack of motivation, low confidence, difficulty losing weight and difficulty gaining muscle.

Blood testing is the only way to know for sure if you have a testosterone deficiency.

Research has confirmed that testosterone counts in men are significantly lower than they were just a few decades ago. One in four men over the age of 30 may have abnormally low testosterone levels according to scientific studies.*

Around the age of 30 testosterone levels naturally begin to decline, but it’s usually a very gradual process. For most men, testosterone levels drop between one to two percent each year from the age of 35. Free testosterone levels also drop considerably as men age, making TD even more common. An increase in obesity, hormone-disrupting environmental chemicals, and anabolic steroid use is also making testosterone deficiency in younger men more prevalent than ever.

Everyone’s medical history is different so our doctor will prescribe a medication that works specifically for you. Successful hormone therapy involves getting just the right dose by the right delivery method for your individual needs. Testosterone replacement therapy involves taking prescribed testosterone medication in the form of injections, pills, patches, creams, and testosterone pellets (placed under the skin).

Testosterone injections are the most common form of medication as they are convenient and most effective for the majority of men.

Undergoing testosterone replacement therapy is completely safe if you’re treated by a specialist doctor who regularly monitors your testosterone levels along with any side effects.

In order to keep side effects to a minimum you’ll check in to monitor your testosterone levels and any potential side effects.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why would I see a Urologist?

You might see a urologist if you’re experiencing issues related to the urinary tract or male reproductive system. Urologists specialise in diagnosing and treating conditions like Erectile Dysfunction (ED), Low Testosterone, elevated PSA levels (which can be an indicator of prostate cancer), Peyronie’s Disease (curved or painful erections), and Prostatitis (inflammation of the prostate). Seeking help from a urologist ensures you receive specialised care for these conditions, improving your overall health and quality of life.

What are the main effects of testosterone?

Testosterone is essential for sperm production, new red blood cells, bone and muscle strength, and a sense of well-being.

Is TRT Effective?

Many men report increased energy, improved sex drive, and better quality erections from testosterone replacement therapy (TRT). Testosterone can also enhance bone density and muscle mass, Additionally, many men experience a mood boost on TRT, though the degree of these effects varies from person to person, with some noticing subtle changes and others seeing a significant improvement.

What tests could be done to diagnose erectile dysfunction?

Men need a lot of different body parts working the right way — from the brain and glands that control hormones to blood vessels and the penis — to get and keep an erection. Because of that, erectile dysfunction, or ED, can have a lot of causes. Some of them are physical; others are mental and emotional.

Physical reasons for ED range from heart disease and diabetes to high blood pressure and obesity. Damage to your nerves or arteries can cause problems with erections, too. Lack of exercise, drinking, and smoking can lead to problems.

On the mental and emotional side of things, anxiety, depression, and stress all play a role. Relationship issues can also be a factor.

With so many possible causes, our Urologist has a number of tests he can use to figure out the best treatment for you.
